Armadillo’s Ice Cream Shoppe
Armadillos Ice Cream Shoppe is a small but immensely popular ice cream shop in Rapid City. Offering large amounts of delicious ice cream in a variety of flavors, it’s a favorite of South Dakota School of Mines students.
Armadillos Ice Cream Shoppe is a local ice cream shop in Rapid City. It offers a wide variety of flavors, in various forms. It is well priced, giving you a lot of ice cream for the price. One of my favorites is the Heath Deluxe; it consists of vanilla ice cream, caramel, hot fudge, and Heath crumbs. The only downside is that so many people want Armadillos, especially on nice days, that lines can be a bit long. But, it is worth the wait. I would give Armadillos 4.9 out of 5 stars.
Menu
One of the most popular restaurants in Rapid City, Armadillos Ice Cream Shoppe lives up to the hype. It boasts a large array of ice cream flavors in a variety of forms such as shakes, malts, cups and bowls. Not only that but it has a wide selection of toppings and specialty sundaes and malts. Besides ice cream, they offer a small selection of hot food, including sandwiches, paninis, and soup.
Prices
The best bang for your buck however is in the ice cream. The ice cream ranges in price, from $1 for a baby cone to the $6.75 jumbo malt. You can order and eat either inside or outside; however, it can get a little packed inside because of how busy they are, even with their new building.
Personal Preferences
I like to order outside, because the weather is usually great. My personal favorite choice is the Heath Deluxe. The smallest size is a medium, but it is a large amount of ice cream. It comes with a large amount of caramel and hot fudge with crumbles of Heath. I haven’t developed a second favorite yet, due to the fact there are so many different flavors I haven’t experienced that many. I hope to try some of the different malt flavors soon, because they are unique.
Overall Experience
Armadillos only has two downsides: it isn’t open between November and March first, so Minnesotans like myself and those who enjoy cold dessert in the middle of winter must find other places; it also can have long lines, even with their quick service, it’s almost impossible to keep up with how immensely popular it is, especially on hot days. It’s less than a mile from the SDSM&T campus, so with affordable prices, it’s a favorite of the students. I would give 4.9 out of 5 stars to Armadillos, only because they aren’t open in the winter months. I would recommend Armadillos to anyone who likes to eat ice cream, because they will surely love it.
