Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews
Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews features an American menu of burgers and wings. Based in North Dakota, Sickies has recently expanded into South Dakota, including a new restaurant in Rapid City.
"Burgers and Brews" may sound like a limited menu, but when you get as creative as Sickie's you wind up with a huge variety. In fact they have over fifty different choices, from the "Sickie's burger," which features peppered bacon, a fried egg, and pulled pork, to the "macaroni and cheese burger," topped with, you guessed it, macaroni and cheese.
I ordered a Nodak Burger, a simple burger with fried jalapeno, gouda cheese and barbecue sauce on top of a patty, sandwiched by buns. A side comes with the burger, and I chose French fries. Here again, it looked simple but the taste was complex: the jalapeno matched the taste of the meat and gouda cheese, but the hotness of jalapeno was relieved by the cheese a little. I was not fully satisfied with of the volume of the burger for its price. Compared with a burger my friend ordered, Nodak Burger seemed smaller though they were the same price, a disappointing inconsistency. Another friend ordered a chicken sandwich and said it was tasteless, but then this is a burger joint..
The waiters/waitresses there were friendly and very willing to explain the menu. I thought it took a bit long for the food to come after we ordered, but it was pretty crowded with customers.
All in all Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews is worth trying. Sure there are a few inconsistencies, but this is still a new restaurant in Rapid City, and it can take time to get set up. With the menu variety, I have no doubt it will be doing great business in no time.
